Daniel Boulud to Open Restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park

Foodies take note – London is getting another great chef among its midst. The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has just announced that famous Lyon-born chef Daniel Boulud is opening Bar Boulud in the hotel in Spring 2010.

Bar Boulud will be designed as a French bistro and wine bar, and will follow the format of Bar Boulud in New York, one of Chef Boulud’s most successful enterprises.

Daniel Boulud’s culinary roots can be traced back to his family farm near Lyon, France where he developed a love of home cooking using fresh seasonal produce. While it is in New York City that Boulud has mastered the culinary scene, he was first trained in France by legendary chefs Roger Vergé, Georges Blanc and Michel Guérard.

Located at street level with its own entrance directly onto Knightsbridge, the Adam D. Tihany designed restaurant, will seat 165.

Tihany conceived the restaurant interior with contemporary references to French wine making culture. The bar lounge features architectural, vaulted ceilings paired with classic materials such as wood, leather, cork, and zinc.

Wine barrels were the inspiration behind the vintage oak floors and wainscoting, and deep red leather banquettes and chairs conjure the warm depths of a delectable Burgundy.

Earlier this month, Boulud was honored with Three Michelin Stars for his New York-based restaurant, Daniel.

Bar Boulud, London will open from 11.00am to 2.00am daily.

Commonly Asked Questions About Mesothelioma Clinical Trial

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 8:46 am

Most people have some concerns about taking part in a clinical trial, often because they’re not really sure what it will mean for them. Taking time to get as much information as you need before you decide is the best way to be sure that you will make the choice that is right for you. These are the commonly asked questions about mesothelioma clinical trials:

1- Is the clinical trial risky?

Yes, all clinical trials have risks. Every medical test, drug, or procedure has risks. The risk may be greater in a clinical trial because some aspects of any new treatment are unknown. This is especially true of phase I and II clinical trials, where the treatment has been studied in fewer people.

Perhaps a more important question is whether the risks are outweighed by the possible benefits. Since mesothelioma cancer is often a terminal disease with the current treatment modalities offering little hope in terms of cure, most victims are often willing to accept a certain amount of risk for a chance to be helped, but it is always important to be realistic about what this chance is. Ask your doctor to give you an idea of what the possible benefits are, and exactly what benefit is likely for you.

With this in mind, you can make a more informed decision. Some people may decide that any chance of being helped is worth the risk, while others may not. Others may be willing to take certain risks to help others.

2- Will I just be used as an experimental “guinea pig?”

There’s no denying that the ultimate purpose of a clinical trial is to answer a medical question. People who take part in clinical trials may need to do certain things or have certain tests done to stay in the study.

But this does not mean that you will not get excellent, compassionate care while in the study. In fact, most people enrolled in clinical trials appreciate the extra attention they get from their health care team. In 2005, the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative Groups surveyed over 1,700 people with cancer on their awareness and attitudes about clinical trials. Only a few had taken part in clinical trials. But most of those who did were very satisfied: 96% said they were treated with dignity and respect, 92% said they had a positive experience, and 91% would recommend that family or friends take part in a clinical trial if faced with cancer.

3- Will I get a placebo?

Most mesothelioma cancer clinical trials do not use placebos unless they are given along with an active drug. It would be unethical to give someone an inactive medicine as it would deny the mesothelioma victim of availing themselves of the available treatment for the cancer.

The very least you should expect from any clinical trial is to be offered the standard of care already being used.

4- Will my information be kept confidential?

As much as possible, all of your personal and medical information will be kept confidential. Of course, your health care team needs this information to give you with the best possible care, just as they would if you were not in a clinical trial.

Medical information that is important for the study, such as test results, is usually put on special forms and into computer databases. This is then given to the people who will analyze the study results. Your information is assigned a number or code ,your name is not on the forms or in the study database. Sometimes, members from the research team or from the Food and Drug Administration may need to look at your medical records to be sure the information they were given is correct. But your personal information is not given to them and is never used in any published study results.

Acne Rosacea in Adults

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 11:31 am

Thought you finally outgrew the days of bad skin and pimples? Well, think again! Many adults suffer from acne in their late twenties and thirties, even those that had never experienced the problem in adolescence. There are generally two types of adult acne - the more common form called Acne Vulgaris, and the more rare form called Acne Rosacea.

It is estimated that up to 85% of the American population between the ages of 12 to 24 years of age have suffered from some form of Acne Vulgaris. However, only about 5% of the population, or 13 million people, experience the aggravation and "rosy" cheeks of Acne Rosacea.

Acne Rosacea is a skin condition that is generally restricted to the face and eyes. It generally affects people between the ages of 30 to 60 years old. The condition is characterized by pimples, redness, and broken blood vessels.

At the onset, a person’s cheeks may tend to blush or flush very easily. However, as the rosacea develops further, redness will be noticeable around the nose area, and then extend over the remainder of the face. An extreme case might experience enlarged oil glands in the nose that can lead to an enlarged and bulbous red nose.

For those suffering from this condition, almost 50% will have issues extending to their eyes. Eye symptoms may include burning and tearing, redness, inflamed eyelids, or a scratchy feeling of something in the eyes.

Acne Rosacea is not medically dangerous, but is also incurable. The good news is that it can be controlled with treatment. The goal of the treatments is to minimize the symptoms and reduce sensitivity of the skin and eyes.

The first step in determining a treatment regimen is to identify possible "triggers", which will be different for each individual. Acne Rosacea generally flares-up when an affected person is exposed to certain environmental or dietary conditions. Some common "triggers" may include hot baths, exercise, wind, cold weather, and certain skin products. This is by no means a comprehensive list.

The key to relief is to identify those conditions which tend to aggravate your Rosacea. Easier said then done, you say? Not really.

The National Rosacea Society recommends that you maintain a symptom diary. The purpose of your diary is to record what was eaten or the conditions immediately prior to the onset of a Rosacea flare-up. Over a few weeks time, you should start to see a pattern form that will give you insight into your own "triggers". Of course, once you have these "triggers" identified, you can avoid these conditions by modifying your lifestyle or eating habits.

Other factors can also contribute to the exacerbation of Rosacea and should be avoided if at all possible. These factors include: avoiding direct sunlight, reducing stress, avoiding long workouts or exertion in hot weather, and limiting spicy foods and hot beverages.

Acne Program Step 5 Foods to Stop Eating

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 4:33 am

Even though many dermatologist and doctors don’t see the connection between your diet, constipation, a toxic colon, and a toxic liver with the acne that you are suffering from, it does not mean the food you eat is not important in clearing your acne.

If the doctors were right about food and the colon, then they would easily be able to help you clear your acne with their drugs. Drugs can give you temporary relief, it they work at all, but as you use them they can also give you some unpleasant side effects.

In her book, Food And Healing, 1986, Annemarie Colbin, points out,

"In a systems view of the body, input of all kinds relates to output of all kinds. Food, therefore, would have a definite relationship to matter pushed out through the skin. I am continually amazed that dermatologists persist in viewing the skin as merely a protective envelope for the body, ascribing its eruptions to ‘viruses’ and imprecise malfunctions and supporting the myth that ‘diet has nothing to do with acne.’

In my experience, diet has everything to do with acne. Not only did I fix my own bad skin through correct eating but I have seen among my students a number of severe cases - the large purplish kind of acne on cheeks and chins - completely cured within three months by a change of diet."

Foods to Stop Eating

If you smoke, drink alcohol or drink coffee, then this program will not work too well for you. When you have these addictions, your body’s minerals and vitamins will be out of balance and it will be difficult for you to achieve any state of good health.

So, here are they foods that you need to stop eating. You don’t need to stop eating these foods instantly. Not many people can do this. You need to do this gradually. I know it will be hard to stop eating some of these foods that you have enjoyed, over the years, but you have to ask yourself the question,

"Which do I want to be ?Acne free or a junk food addict?"

Acne Program - Adding Essential Fatty Acids To Your Diet

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 1:17 pm

Getting sufficient essential fatty acids is importance in clearing acne. It’s these fatty acids that help control the production of androgens - the hormones that surge during the teen-age times, which causes excess sebum oil to clog your hair follicle and contribute to creating your acne.

The three fatty acids you need daily are omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9. You need more omega 6, olive oil, than omega 3.

When you are deficient in the essential fatty acids, you will have,

? A weaken immune system
? Inflammatory disorders
? Poor skin
? Skin eruptions that won’t heal
? Increase sebum production causing acne
? Sebaceous glands size increase

Eating essential oils is necessary to provide the right oils that are used in the sebaceous glands. These oils can come from straight vegetable oils or from oils in specific foods such as nuts and seeds.

Use flax seed oil (omega-3 oil) and olive oil (omega-6 oil) in your salad. These are the best oils to eat and are called polyunsaturated fatty acids. The other oil that is even better for you is called monounsaturated fatty acid, omega-9. This oil is found in avocados.

Most diets people have contain an excess of omega-6 oils, so mostly likely you need to concentrate on getting more omega-3 oils into your diet.

You can get omega-3 oil from,

? avocados
? sesame seeds
? pumpkin seeds
? walnuts
? dark leafy green vegetables (spinach, mustard greens, kale)
? wheat germ oil
? salmon
? sardines
? albacore tuna

Or, you can take one to 4 tablespoon of flax seed oil, omega-3 oil, each day. This will give you the amount of omega-3 oil that your body needs to reduce or eliminate acne blemishes. You can add this oil to your morning cereal, soups, smoothies, salads and other liquid foods. Each tablespoon of flax seed oil contains about 100 calories.
